Blechacz awarded the Gilmore Artist Award

Successful polish pianist, 28-year-old Rafal Blechacz won the Gilmore Artist Award. It is one of the most remarkable distinctions in the music world. It is awarded every four years for all musical achievements, but it is not associated with any piano competition.

How do nominations for this award look like? Anonymous jury tracks the careers of pianists, listen to concerts and speeches around the world. There is no way to apply for the award. Contrary, the pianist is not aware of the fact that he is a pretender to receive it, and information about its capture is always a surprise.

Rafał Blechacz accelerated his career and gained an international fame by winning the 2005 Frederic Chopin International Piano Competition. He won the five major awards at the same time. One of them was his own Steinway grand piano – dream came true for that young pianist.

What do distinguish these instruments from others? Each of them is made manually, it gives individual and unique sound. Pianists come to the factory in Hamburg and they are trying different instruments. Rafał Blechacz chose personally his Steinway B with number 575 336 in October 2005. Two years later he was signed into an elite list of Steinway Artists – top successful musicians playing on pianos of the legendary 160-year old brand.

The list of Steinway Artists include e.g. Arthur Rubinstein, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Ignacy Jan Paderewski, Vladimir Horowitz, Igor Stravinsky, Richard Wagner and Sergei Prokofiev.
